Movies: New releases in November

In recent years, cinema releases have been relatively scarce – partly because of Covid, but also because of the 148-day writers’ strike in Hollywood last year. However – November is going to be different. This month is set to be the biggest of the year in terms of new films, with something for everyone. From musicals to Ancient Rome to Peru, your local cinema is going to take you to all sorts of places. Here we go – stand by your cinema usher and get ready to be dazzled.

Hugh Grant kicked the month off as a Heretic who invites two callers from the Church of the Latter-day Saints into his home. Psychological horror just in time for Halloween. On the same day we were treated to Blitz – a historical world war drama that has been getting a lot of critical praise. And – as if that wasn’t enough – on the same day we met Anora – a Brooklyn stripper whose marriage is, perhaps understandably, in trouble. November 1st also saw the new film from Clint Eastwood.  Juror #2 is a courtroom drama with a twist. I have seen it and trust me – it’s really good.

Red One might be better coming out in December, but it’s out now. After Santa Claus (code name: Red One) is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security (Dwayne Johnson) must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty  hunter.  Expect lots of wise-cracking action. Still in the realm of fantasy, this time for the kids, Paddington in Peru sees our favourite marmalade-eating bear heading off, with the entire Brown family, to… Peru.  The two previous films have been fantastic and this one looks like following suit.

Fans of musicals will be looking forward to the big-screen adaptation of Wicked, which has been a long time coming. The film tells the story of what was going on in Oz before Dorothy ‘dropped in’.  I for one am really looking forward to this one.

Other big screen releases this month to watch out for include: Conclave, a thriller set in Vatican City, and two long-awaited sequels. Gladiator 2 and from the House of Mouse, Mona 2.  As I said – something for everyone.

That’s all for this month folks – enjoy your cinema trips.
