After a series of disappointing prequels the Aliens are here to terrify us again. Alien: Romulus takes place between the events of Alien and Aliens and is set on board a space station, where Space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life-form in the universe while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station. Personally, as a massive fan of the franchise I can’t wait.
While the return of our favourite monsters will dominate screens this month there’s a lot else on offer as well. Here’s a brief run-down of what to expect.
Harold and the Purple Crayon is a family-based fantasy about a purple crayon that brings to life anything drawn with it. Borderlands is a full-throttle action, adventure, sci-fi movie, based on the video game and set on a “strange new world”. It ends with a young woman who has to come face to face with her past.
After his daughter had a go at directing earlier this year, M Night Shyamalan returns with a new thriller Trap involving a kidnap and murder. Strange things start to happen on a Millionaire’s private island in Blink Twice, while two birds take flight before the end of the month. The Crow is a revenge thriller and Cuckoo is a horror film that centres around strange noises and visions in the Alp.
One film we won’t get to see this August is Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 2. Sadly, it’s been withdrawn due to the failure of part one. It’s a real shame as I thought the first film was terrific.
That’s all folks. Enjoy your cinema trips.
